10 Hidden Gems in Bath You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

Good morning!

Bath is known for its grand Georgian architecture, iconic landmarks, and rich history, but there are so many tucked-away treasures that even locals might not know about.

Here are 10 of my favourite finds that are off the beaten track.

  1. The Little Theatre Cinema
If you’re tired of the usual big-screen cinema experience, The Little Theatre Cinema is a must-visit. It’s got that old-school charm with cosy seating and a selection of arthouse and indie films. Perfect for when you fancy something a bit different or just want to escape the busy city centre.
  2. Magalleria
This quirky little shop is heaven for anyone who loves niche magazines and art books. Magalleria curates a selection you won’t find anywhere else in Bath. You could spend hours here flicking through beautifully crafted indie magazines on everything from fashion to food. It’s one of those places you’ll want to return to again and again. Shop Magalleria on LocalVerse.
  3. The Museum of Bath Architecture
Hidden away from the main tourist trail, this museum is a real eye-opener. If you’ve ever wondered how Bath’s iconic buildings were designed and constructed, this place is full of fascinating details about the city’s architectural history. It’s a peaceful spot too, perfect for a quiet afternoon exploring Bath’s lesser-known stories.
  4. OAK Restaurant
If you’re a fan of plant-based dining (or even if you’re not!), OAK is a gem you can’t miss. Their seasonal, locally-sourced menu is creative and packed with flavour. It’s one of those places where you leave feeling like you’ve had a meal that’s as good for the planet as it is for you. Definitely book ahead – it’s cosy and fills up fast!
  5. Francis Gallery
Tucked away on a quiet street, Francis Gallery is the kind of peaceful space that leaves you feeling inspired. Their exhibitions are minimalist and thoughtful, showcasing contemporary art that’s all about subtle beauty. Even if you’re not a huge art buff, there’s something calming about this place that makes it worth a visit.
  6. Found
If you’re after a unique gift or a treat for yourself, Found is a treasure trove of stylish homeware, clothing, and accessories. It’s beautifully curated, and every corner feels like a discovery. I love popping in when I’m in need of some inspiration or just fancy a wander around one of Bath’s best-kept shopping secrets.
  7. Bath’s Secret Tunnels
Did you know there’s an entire underground network of tunnels beneath Bath? Not many people do! You can take a guided tour to explore these hidden passages, which were once used for everything from smuggling to secret escapes. It’s a totally different side of Bath’s history, and trust me, it’s worth the adventure.
  8. Widcombe Crescent
Everyone’s heard of the Royal Crescent, but how about Widcombe Crescent? This beautiful row of houses is much quieter, offering stunning views and peaceful surroundings. It’s a lovely spot for a leisurely walk, and you’ll often have it all to yourself. Perfect for a quiet moment away from the crowds.
  9. Cross Bath, the Hidden Thermal Bath
While the Thermae Spa is always a popular choice, the Cross Bath is a more intimate and lesser-known option. It’s steeped in history and offers a more personal, tranquil bathing experience. You can book it out for yourself or a small group, making it feel like your own private slice of Bath’s thermal magic.
  10. Sham Castle
Perched on a hill overlooking the city, Sham Castle is a bit of a local secret. It’s not a real castle, but a folly built in the 18th century purely for the aesthetic. The walk up is worth it for the panoramic views of Bath, and it’s the perfect spot for a peaceful picnic with a view.

I hope this list inspires you to explore more of Bath’s hidden corners.

These gems are what make our city so special – places that are a little off the radar but full of charm and character.

Lots of love,

Kyra Xx
